What is the Fraxel Laser?
This laser produces thousands of tiny but deep columns of treatment
in your skin, known as microthermal treatment zones. This treatment
eliminates old epidermal pigmented cells seen with aging and
sun damage. It also penetrates deep into the dermis. The
Fraxel laser however, leaves the surrounding healthy tissue
intact, which reduces healing time and promotes the skin's
natural process for creating new, healthier tissue to replace
the damaged cells. For before and after pictures please

What should I expect from this treatment?
Patients sit with a topical numbing cream for 45 minutes before
their treatment; therefore patients must arrive 45 minutes
prior to their appointment time. A blue gel is then applied
to the area being treated. There is minimal discomfort with
this laser treatment. However, patients have described
the laser as a tingling sensation. Some patients may
experience a slight burning sensation. The actual laser
procedure takes anywhere from 15-25 minutes. After the
laser procedure, the area treated is cleansed and sunscreen
is applied. Makeup can be worn after the procedure. You
may need to start cold sore medication to prevent an outbreak
after this procedure.
How many treatments will I need?
An effective treatment for most patients is 3-5 sessions with
the laser each done a month apart. On average, it may take
at least three treatments to see improvement with your skin.
How much downtime is involved?
Swelling and redness are the most common side effects from this
treatment. If swelling does occur, it is minimal and
will resolve with the next 48 hours. During the first
24 hours after treatment, the area treated may appear sunburned
and red; this will fade with in the next couple of days. Your
skin will bronze over the next two weeks and may flake or exfoliate. You
may moisturize with Cetaphil cream to help reduce the flaking.
Cost of treatment?
The cost of treatment for this laser can vary depending on the
area treated. On average, we recommend anywhere from
3-5 treatments to achieve optimal results. A deposit
must be made at the time of scheduling for this treatment.
